1. Introduction
Food in Five ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our mobile application. Food in Five operates entirely on your device — there is no backend server, no user accounts, and no server-side data storage.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Location Data
- Current Location: With your permission, the app accesses your current location (GPS coordinates) to find nearby restaurants.
- Search Locations: When you search by address or ZIP code, the text you enter is sent to the OpenStreetMap Nominatim geocoding service to convert it into coordinates (see Section 5.3). It is not stored on any server we operate.
- Usage: Location data is sent directly from your device to Google Places API to retrieve restaurant results. It is not transmitted to or stored on any server we operate.
2.2 On-Device Data
- Favorites: Saved restaurants and personal notes are stored locally on your device using SwiftData.
- Preferences: Settings such as search radius, sort order, and appearance theme are stored locally on your device.
- Search Cache: Recent search results are cached on your device for up to 5 minutes to reduce redundant API calls. You can clear this cache at any time from Settings.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Provide restaurant search results based on your location
- Display distances, ratings, hours, and other restaurant details
- Store your favorites and preferences locally for a personalized experience
4. Data Storage and Security
4.1 Data Storage

- Search cache: Automatically cleared after 5 minutes
- Photo cache: Automatically cleared after 7 days

7. Your Rights
- Control: You can revoke location permission at any time in iOS Settings
- Deletion: Clear your search cache from the app's Settings screen, delete individual favorites, or uninstall the app to remove all local data
- Transparency: No data is collected by us — only the third-party services listed above receive data as part of normal app operation
